The foundation stone of Goindwal Nucleus Industrial Complex was laid in 1981 after considering the objectives of providing employment in rural, backward areas to youth. The historical and religious importance of Shri Goindwal Sahib was a significent factor in deciding the location of India's first Nucleus Industrial Complex. A master plan of 6000 acres was envisaged and a corporation namely, "The Goindwal Industrial and Investment Corporation of Punjab, Limited" was constituted with the objective of implementation of the master plan. The Punjab in general and this area in particular has passed through a very tough period in the past 10 years. Despite this, the development picture of the complex is depicted from the following facts.
At present there are 60 small, medium and big units in production and approx 60 units under construction providing direct employment to around 10,000 youth of this area, which is badly in need of employment.
Among the entrepreneurs, mostly there are 1st generation entrepreneurs who have chosen the self-employment career.
Goindwal Sahib village enjoys the status of a sub-tehsil.
Prestigious Navodaya Schoul of Amritsar District is located here.
Electronic Exchange with S.T.D. facility is available.
D.S.P (Police) Headquarters, Primary Health Centre, Post Office exist here.
Besides this, the Goindwal Sahib has following attractions for new investment.
25% capital subsidy (maximum capital subsidy available at any other place in Punjab is 15%
Sales tax exemption for 10 years.
Exemption in electricity duty for 10 years.
These attractions will definitely bring in new investment which will achieve the ultimate objective. Various projects which are in the pipeline for Goindwal Sahib are:
Beas-Goindwal rail link project is underway and is expected to be com-pleted in three years.
The Punjab Agro Industries Corporation has acquired approx 300 acres of land for setting up of Rs 400 crote paper Mill.
ESI Hospital is under construction.
Community centre is under construction.
Rs 25 crore spinning Mill is expected to come up shortly.
Two big projects are planned o be set un shortly.
The Goindwal Nucleus Industrial Complex was the second big project given to Punjab after Bhakhra Dam. It must be developed into a Model Nucleus Industrial Township to fulfil our national commitment given to the people of this area, first generation entrepreneurs and youth.
